Stallion Training

Stallions can become equally talented and under equally free conditions. Stallions are also horses, with exactly the same instinctive behavior patterns, as other horses. Which is why this type of training also works with them. A stallion is like all other horses also a gregarious species, which means that it will choose to submit to and cooperate to become part of the flock. However, -when the sex drive is first aroused and the hormones pumps, a stallion may easily be distracted during training. This means that the dominance / leadership should be really strong to achieve its full focus in all training situations. Furthermore, if the stallions once have bred, they can be a little bit more aware of their own strength, so they will often need a little extra consideration time before they completely submit to a human. Therefore will the ground work generally take a little longer for a stallion in compare to other horses.

I will always recommend everyone to start working with a stallion on a lead, a rather short but loose leash, which can indicate freedom. I also think that one should be more careful not to exceed the stallion's limits. Especially in dominance exercises. I would not recommend taking direct dominance conflicts with stallions, as it is more natural for them to fight, than to flight. I rather think, it gives results to be a tad softer and more flattering with stallions. We still have to be super consistent but extra loving. They're male animals and they are driven by praise and love as motivation.

We should pay ekstra attention to reading their signals. fore example if a horse yawns, I think that it is tired or submissive. If a stallion yawn, I think that he rejects.
