Horsemanship camp for children

Since I am often contacted by parents of children with horses, who want their children to have more tools for everyday handling, just as there is a great demand for teaching Natural Horsemanship to children, I hold one annual -Horsemanship camp for children .

Given that the horses are so much physically stronger than we are, children often have difficulty putting themselves in respect at positive way. This camp will be working with leadership and everyone will achieve leadership without using physical forces. My experience is that children often easier than adults both learn to use body language and sense the horse and its borders. They learn to read the horse's signals and even use them in communicating with their horse. This is of course under supervision - and in collaboration with me. Furthermore, I find that children in these camp's are very good at supporting and helping each other. They're all experiencing a great learning experience.

If there is no opportunity to bring your own horse, it will be possible to participate anyway and borrow one of my children familiar horses in the period.

Horse camp with Mia 2009

Tuesday:
We learned to get our horses to respect us and see us as their leader. We saw how we should work with the horses (Mia `s way) we also learned about the horse's language and to understand them based on their behavior. And reading from their body language -how they have been treated previously. If for example, they have been abused before. We also observed Mia working with her horses. It was very exciting.

Wednesday:

We continued to train from the ground and get the horses to follow us. And when we got far, we began to ride. We rode the horses without any equipment (walk and trot) and it was pretty funny. The horses started to get better as we worked with them. Everything was better Wednesday because we were more into it and it became easier.

Thursday:
We are learning something all the time, but it gets better every day. We all got to ride our horses without any equipment. And steer them in walk and trot by the mane. It's actually not that hard to ride horses without equipment, it is a little different but it's so funny. We have also tried to ride with a bit less bridle and we all want to own one for our horses now. It's a nice way of working because you feel better, when the horses are not forced to anything. We also tried to ride one of Mia's horses and it was very talented.

Friday:
We rode again with a bit less bridle and we began to train for the "show" which we had to show for our parents when they arrive to fetch us. In the show we were also riding on galloping horses, so we also began to train.

Saturday:
We managed to train a little before our parents came and it was very nice just to get a feel for how they would behave. After our parents arrived, we began to show. We came in one by one and showed what we had learned and when we finished it we pulled away from the track and another came in to show. When we all had shown what we had learned, we began to ride a small program which we had practiced on. Then it was finished and we began to pack our things and go home.
